A 36-year-old man has been impaled on a metre-long reinforcing bar after he fell two metres from a walkway at a Belrose construction site.
The man was impaled through his back, chest and arm.
CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter was tasked just after 1:30pm and landed in a park where NSW Police escorted CareFlight’s aeromedical team to the scene of the incident.
At the construction site, emergency services personnel from Fire and Rescue NSW were working to shorten the pole from the front and back and NSW Ambulance paramedics were providing initial treatment.
CareFlight’s specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic assessed the patient’s condition and prepared him for transport to hospital with the shortened bar still in his body.
The man was taken by road ambulance, on his side, in a stable condition to Royal North Shore Hospital under ongoing observation from CareFlight’s clinical team.
