A 66-year-old man has been airlifted to hospital in a stable condition after his motorcycle hit a tree that fell onto the M1 Motorway near Mount White this afternoon.

The large eucalyptus tree had fallen onto the road in a 110km/hr speed zone. The man was the only person injured when his motorcycle collided with the tree.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter flew directly to the scene when tasked, landing on the motorway shortly before 1.00pm.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic treated the man for head injuries.

He was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.
