A 39-year-old man has suffered a serious head injury after the pipe he was pressure testing exploded at a Carlingford worksite earlier today.

CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance shortly after 12:15pm and landed 15 minutes later by the scene of the incident where NSW Ambulance paramedics were providing initial treatment.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic performed a clinical assessment on the man. The worker was intubated and CareFlight’s clinical team placed him in an induced coma to stabilise him.

The man was taken by road with NSW Ambulance under ongoing observation from CareFlight’s clinical team to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition.
