A 78-year-old man has sustained chest and leg injuries after he was pinned by his car in a Bateau Bay caravan park.
The man had alighted from his vehicle when it started rolling forward and while trying to stop it, the man was trapped by the car door.
CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance at 9:30am from the Westmead hangar and landed 25 minutes later in a park close to the scene of the incident. NSW Police escorted CareFlight’s clinical team to the scene of the incident were Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Ambulance paramedics were extricating the man and providing initial treatment.
CareFlight’s specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic performed a clinical assessment on the man and performed an ultrasound to assess his internal injuries. They also conducted a blood and plasma transfusion at the scene of the incident.
The clinical team continued providing care as the man was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
