An 89-year-old man has been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after being crushed between a boat and towing vehicle on the Central Coast this morning.

The man was injured when standing between a car and its boat trailer, which was stationary on Karalta Road, Erina, when a passing vehicle collided with the boat from behind.

As the boat was dislodged, falling onto the vehicle in front, the man was caught between.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked to Erina at 11.15am, landing at Erina Oval. NSW Ambulance crews brought the patient to be met by the CareFlight’s critical care team.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and intensive care paramedic performed roadside surgery and a blood transfusion. They intubated the man and placed him on a ventilator to stabilise him.

He was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
