An 84-year-old man underwent emergency surgery before being airlifted to hospital after falling from a balcony on Sydney’s Northern Beaches this morning.

It’s understood the man was working on the house when he fell.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked to Avalon at 10.41am, landing in Hitchcock Park.

The specialist doctor and critical care paramedic were conveyed to the scene, where NSW Fire & Rescue crews were also attending to extricate the man due to the steep terrain.

The man sustained multiple injuries in the fall, one of which required an on scene surgical procedure.

The main was transferred to the helicopter with NSW Ambulance and airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
