A 40-year-old man has been taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition after the semi-trailer he was driving crashed on the M1 Freeway this afternoon.

It’s understood the truck rolled in the accident, before eventually coming to rest again on its wheels.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked to Mooney Mooney shortly after 4pm, with Police securing the road allowing the helicopter to land at the scene.

The northbound lanes of the freeway were blocked, with a Fire & Rescue, Rural Fire Service, Ambulance crews and emergency services volunteers on scene.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic treated the man at the scene for multiple injuries.

The CareFlight medical crew provided ongoing treatment to the patient as he was taken to hospital by road ambulance.

It’s understood a female passenger was able to free herself from the vehicle and was treated by ambulance crews and taken to hospital in a stable condition.
