A 51-year-old man was taken to hospital in a critical condition after falling around four metres onto rocks at a building site in St Ives this morning.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked shortly before 8am, landing in a school ground on Link Road.

Police conveyed CareFlight’s medical crew to the patient a few hundred metres away on Lancaster Avenue.

The man had fallen through a roof, landing in a shallow rock pool, impacting his head and losing consciousness.

Ambulance crews extricated the man before providing treatment and preparing him for intervention by CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic.

CareFlight’s medical team intubated the man at the scene and treated him for serious head injuries.

CareFlight’s doctor continued providing care to the patient as he was taken by road to hospital in a critical condition.
