A 60-year-old man had his left foot partially amputated and some toes fully amputated while using a ride-on lawnmower at home.
CareFlight’s rapid response trauma team were called to the Niagara Park address on the Central Coast at 9.26am. Due to the wooded, hilly terrain, the crew landed the helicopter at a nearby industrial estate on the corner of Sunnybank Road and Railway Crescent. The site was secured by NSW Police.
Paramedics from NSW Ambulance reached the injured man first. Then, together with a NSW Police Highway Patrol escort, they brought the injured man to the CareFlight helicopter. CareFlight’s doctor worked with paramedics from NSW Ambulance to initiate pre-hospital treatment and stabilise the man.
The injured man remained conscious and was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.
