CareFlight airlifted a man to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition after a three vehicle accident on the Central Coast late this afternoon.

The man was trapped for more than half an hour after the collision, in which he sustained multiple fractures, injuries to the abdomen and head.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was called to Eastern Road in Tumbi Umbi just after 5:15pm, landing in an oval near the accident scene.

The medical team, a NSW Ambulance helicopter medical team and paramedics attended patients at the scene.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and intensive care paramedic treated the man’s injuries at the roadside. They intubated him and provided a blood transfusion to stabilise him.

He was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

It’s understood the NSW Ambulance helicopter airlifted another two patients to hospital, with others taken by road ambulance.
