Emergency service crews and local residents at Dundee Beach worked together to help a man who suffered a serious injury while operating an angle grinder yesterday.
CareFlight, operating the Top End Medical Retrieval Service on behalf of the Northern Territory Government, tasked the Top End Rescue Helicopter to help the 74-year-old man, who had suffered serious lacerations and blood loss in the incident.
Once overhead, CareFlight lowered a flight nurse down a winch into the residential area before flying to find a suitable landing position nearby.
A local was ready with his ute to drive CareFlight’s flight nurse the short distance to meet and assist St John Ambulance crews who were providing initial treatment.
The man was next conveyed to meet the helicopter and CareFlight’s doctor, who provided further treatment.
The patient was airlifted to Royal Darwin Hospital in a stable condition.
CareFlight’s crews praised the locals and St John Ambulance crews for their excellent response and teamwork in helping the man.
