CareFlight operates the Top End Medical Retrieval Service on behalf of the Northern Territory Government.
The Action Plan aims to improve the health of all Australians in accordance with Australia’s human rights protections and anti-discrimination law throughout the remote communities the charitable organisation serves.
“For more than 30 years, patients have been at the heart of everything we do at CareFlight,” CareFlight CEO Derek Colenbrander said.
“As we have spread our wings across the country, more and more of our patients are First Australians. When the patient identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, it means we must be attuned to a range of social and cultural experiences and influences that are different to those of whose culture and experience is drawn from other backgrounds and contexts.
“We envisage the Reconciliation Action Plan will guide our staff and the organisation in achieving our vision, while at the same time building strong connections and linkages between CareFlight and the remote communities it serves in the Northern Territory.”
Key focus points of CareFlight’s Reconciliation Action Plan include building strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, showing respect for Australia’s First Nations People, creating First Nations employment opportunities and demonstrating commitment to the Reconciliation Action Plan through tracking and reviewing processes.
