A man in his early 40s was airlifted to Royal Darwin Hospital yesterday morning, after he suffered from a suspected snake bite.
The man was with a group of workers on the Marrakai 4WD track near Batchelor, when he was reportedly bitten by the unidentified snake.
Bystanders applied emergency first aid, before Batchelor Clinic staff transported the man to the clinic, where he was met by a CareFlight doctor and flight nurse at 12 noon.
CareFlight, who operates the Top End Medical Retrieval Service on behalf of the Northern Territory Government, airlifted the man on board a CareFlight King Air turbo-prop aircraft to Darwin in a stable condition.
Upon returning to CareFlight’s Darwin hangar, the crew was tasked to the small community of Robinson River in the Gulf of Carpentaria, where a 15-year-old boy had also suffered from a suspected snake bite.
The teenager was cared for by Robinson River Clinic staff, before he was flown to Darwin.
St John Ambulance transported him from CareFlight’s Darwin hangar to Royal Darwin hospital, where he arrived just after 7.30pm in a stable condition.
CareFlight praised the efforts of all first responders and clinic staff involved in the two snake bite incidents.
