A 17-year-old male has been taken to hospital in a stable condition after he suffered burns to 45 per cent of his body in north-west Sydney early this evening.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked to Ermington shortly before 6pm, landing in a park near the scene.

The boy was accidentally burnt while using methylated spirits to light a fire in a backyard.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and intensive care paramedic treated him at the scene for burns to the face, chest and legs.

NSW Ambulance was also on scene.

The medical crew provided ongoing care for the patent while going by road ambulance to Royal North Shore Hospital.
