A teenage boy has sustained limb and suspected spinal injuries after coming off his mountain bike on a track in Ourimbah and rolling down a slope into bushland.
NSW Ambulance paramedics provided initial treatment and assisted the New South Wales Volunteer Rescue Association to recover the boy from the surrounding bushland, back onto the track and awaiting ambulance.
The Mounties Care CareFlight Helicopter was tasked to the incident by NSW Ambulance shortly after 11:30am and landed 20 minutes later in a clearing nearby the incident. NSW Police escorted CareFlight’s clinical team to the scene where the specialist doctor and a NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic performed a clinical assessment on the boy. The assessment included an ultrasound and continuing the pain relief and spinal precautions initially commenced by NSW Ambulance paramedics.
NSW Ambulance paramedics then transported CareFlight’s medical team and the boy to the waiting helicopter where he was airlifted to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a stable condition with continuing observation and medical care.
