A 13-year-old boy has sustained neck, arm and suspected spinal injuries when his go kart collided with a kangaroo at a Marrangaroo raceway.

The teenager lost consciousness from the impact.

CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance at 1:55pm from the Westmead hangar and landed 35 minutes later within the grounds of the raceway. NSW Ambulance paramedics were providing initial treatment for the patient.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic performed a clinical assessment on the patient, including an ultrasound, and administered pain relief. The clinical team prepared the boy for flight transfer to hospital, while undertaking spinal precautions.

The patient, with his mother, was airlifted to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a stable condition under ongoing observation from CareFlight’s clinical team.
