A 74-year-old driver is in a critical condition after the vehicle he was driving collided with a small truck this afternoon at Rouse Hill.

CareFlight’s rapid responder helicopter was tasked just after 3.45pm to Commercial Road in Rouse Hill, landing on a park 50 metres from the scene.

Fire and Rescue and Rural Fire Service crews worked carefully for 45 minutes to free the man who was trapped.

Ambulance crews provided initial assessment and treatment to the patient who had suffered multiple injuries to his upper body.

CareFlight’s specialist care doctor and critical care paramedic continued treatment, giving him a blood transfusion to stabilise his condition.

The man continued to receive treatment from the CareFlight medical team as he was transported to Westmead Hospital via road ambulance in a critical condition.

CareFlight’s medical team praised the work of the Ambulance crews.

Police were also at the scene.
