Emergency and medical teams combined to treat a seriously injured man after his 4WD crashed near Batchelor, south of Darwin tonight.
Police, St John paramedics, a health clinic nurse and CareFlight rushed to the man’s aid on Crater Lake Road shortly before 6.30pm.
Police drove the crew doctor and flight nurse to the scene after the CareFlight rescue helicopter landed with the aid of night vision goggles in a clear area near the Stuart Highway.
A nurse from nearby Batchelor Health Clinic and the paramedics started treatment for the 70-year-old man who suffered head injuries in the crash.
After stabilisation he was taken by St John to the waiting helicopter.
The crew doctor and nurse continued treatment as the man was flown by the CareFlight rescue helicopter to Royal Darwin Hospital where he remained in a serious but stable condition on arrival shortly before 9.30pm.
