A 22-year-old woman has been airlifted to hospital after her car was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Woy Woy Road in Woy Woy Bay.

She sustained critical injuries to her body and was trapped in her vehicle.

CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter was tasked shortly before 10:00am from CareFlight’s Westmead hangar and landed 20 minutes later adjacent to the scene of the incident.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and Ambulance critical care paramedic made their way to the scene where NSW Ambulance paramedics were providing initial treatment. Members of Fire and Rescue NSW and the Rural Fire Service were on scene and worked with the medical team to extricate the woman.

CareFlight’s clinical team worked to stabilise the patient, intubating and placing her in an induced coma at the scene. A blood and plasma transfusion was also performed at the scene.

The woman was airlifted from Woy Woy to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition under ongoing treatment from CareFlight’s clinical team.
