A 56-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after suffering a medical emergency at the town of Freemans Reach this morning.

The woman was found unconscious at a residence by family members, having complained of headache earlier in the day.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked shortly before 10am, landing at a turf farm near the scene.

Ambulance paramedics responded and provided initial treatment.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic provided anaesthetics and intubated the woman to stabilise her.

Ambulance paramedics then helped CareFlight crews transfer the patient to the helicopter.

The medical crew provided ongoing care as the woman was flown to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
