A 53-year-old woman and her 13-year-old female passenger have been trapped in their car when the vehicle collided with a guard rail on the M1 Pacific Motorway, Somersby.

The woman sustained serious chest injuries and the girl had minor injuries.

CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance at 12:40pm from the Westmead hangar and landed 30 minutes later in the grounds of Somersby Public School. NSW Ambulance paramedics provided treatment for the patients at the scene of the incident, assisted with their extrication and transported the woman and girl to the school.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic performed a clinical assessment on the woman, including an ultrasound and administered pain relief. They also assessed the condition of the girl and prepared her for transport to hospital.

The woman was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition under ongoing observation from CareFlight’s clinical team. The injured passenger was taken by road with NSW Ambulance to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a stable condition.
