A young girl had a fortunate escape from drowning in her family’s backyard swimming pool at Winston Hills in Sydney’s west late today.
Emergency services raced to the home in Rudyard Street shortly after 5pm on initial reports the girl was unconscious.
After a 90 second flight from their base, the CareFlight helicopter landed in a park adjacent to the home, as police and ambulance paramedics arrived,
The CareFlight doctor said family members told him they found the girl floating face down in the pool and dragged her out in a semi-conscious state.
The girl’s breathing quickly restarted.
After initial treatment at the scene the girl was taken, under continuing treatment by the CareFlight doctor and ambulance paramedics, in a road ambulance to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
She remained in a serious but stable condition on arrival.
