A 23-year-old woman and 24-year-old man were flown to hospital after they were injured in a single car crash near Gunlom Falls in Kakadu yesterday.

The van the interstate visitors were driving rolled over several times before it came to a halt. The couple were able to remove themselves from the wreckage.

CareFlight, operating the Top End Medical Retrieval Service on behalf of the Northern Territory Government, tasked the Top End Rescue Helicopter to the scene at around 2.30pm.

Park rangers provided initial care for the couple before bringing them back to the Mary River Ranger Station.

CareFlight landed at the station and the medical team provided treatment for minor head injuries.

Clinic staff from Jabiru and Katherine also attended, arriving shortly after the helicopter.

Both patients were airlifted to Royal Darwin Hospital in a stable condition.

It was CareFlight’s second trip to Kakadu National Park over the weekend. A CareFlight fixed wing aircraft flew a 25-year-old man from Jabiru to RDH after he was injured at Jim Jim Falls on Saturday night.
