CareFlight helicopter in back-to-back missions across Top End again

Monday 18 May 2020

CareFlight’s Top End Rescue Helicopter has again flown back-to-back missions to treat patients between Adelaide River and Dundee today.

Just after 12pm CareFlight was tasked to treat a 57-year-old man who sustained an injury on a station south of Darwin.

The man was servicing a vehicle when the incident occurred, severely injuring his right hand.

Staff from the station provided initial treatment for the man before Adelaide River clinic staff arrived to provide further assistance.

CareFlight’s Top End Rescue Helicopter flew to the area and landed on a nearby oval.

CareFlight’s flight nurse and doctor stabilised the patient before airlifting him to Royal Darwin Hospital.

Shortly after, CareFlight flew to Dundee to treat a 70-year-old man who had sustained injuries whilst driving an all-terrain vehicle on a property in the area.

The crew landed on a paddock at the property and CareFlight’s flight nurse and doctor provided treatment for the man’s abdominal and back injuries.

The patient was airlifted to Royal Darwin Hospital in a stable condition shortly before 8pm.

The busy day comes after back-to-back missions between Arnhem Land and Dundee yesterday.

CareFlight operates the Top End Medical Retrieval Service on behalf of the Northern Territory Government and runs the only dedicated medical rescue helicopter in the Northern Territory.
