More than 250 community supporters had the rare chance to view behind the hangar doors at Westmead today when CareFlight hosted their annual Open Day.
Visitors to the event were treated to a unique tour and variety of presentations from the CareFlight team, who shared insight into their roles, experiences, aircraft and equipment. It is the community’s chance to see CareFlight, especially the rapid response helicopter, up close, take a photo with it, and ask questions of the crew.
For CareFlight crews the Open Day is the chance to give back to the community who donates or fundraises to support our vital work.
The day included a behind-the-scenes tour of CareFlight’s rapid response helicopter operations, an introduction to our MediSim trauma care workshops and the education team who take workshops into the community. There was also a chance to meet the team who operate the new Patient Transport Service, as well as the first glimpse of a Rural Fire Service helicopter that is being flown by CareFlight’s pilots to assist the state this bushfire season.
For CareFlight’s new CEO, Mick Frewen, the Open Day provided him a wonderful opportunity to meet community supporters who raise funds, or donate money directly to CareFlight’s work.
“It was a fantastic opportunity today to come and see the CareFlight team in action showing our supporters and donors all the great work that we do. It was especially pleasing to be able to also show our Rural Fire Service mission alongside our rapid response helicopter, the Patient Transport Service vehicles and of course the MediSim displays,” says Mick Frewen.
