Crane drops load on man working beneath

Thursday 25 August 2016, 6pm Sydney time

A 63-year-old man was knocked unconscious when machinery fell from a crane onto his head in the Blue Mountains this afternoon.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked to Yellow Rock at about 5pm, landing at an industrial site near the injured man. NSW Ambulance crew were also on scene.

It’s understood the man was working directly beneath a piece of machinery, which was being lifted by the crane, when it slipped and fell on him.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and intensive care paramedic intubated the man at the scene, placing him in an induced coma to stabilise him.

He was then airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition
