A 35-year-old man has sustained fractures to his leg, injuries to his abdomen and suspected spinal injuries when his vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with another car at the intersection of Commercial Road and Boundary Road, Vineyard.

CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance shortly before 11:40am and landed 15 minutes later in a property adjacent to the incident where NSW Ambulance paramedics were providing initial treatment.

Working with emergency services personnel from the State Emergency Service who were extricating the patient, CareFlight’s specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic performed a clinical assessment on the man, including an ultrasound to assess his injuries, while he was still in the vehicle.

Taking spinal precautions with the patient, CareFlight’s clinical team continued providing care as the man was taken by road with NSW Ambulance in a critical condition to Westmead Hospital.
