A 25-year-old kite surfer is in a critical condition after he crashed into a boat ramp in Drummoyne earlier this evening.

It is understood the young man had just taken off when he was caught by a gust of wind, impacting the boat ramp.

The patient, who became unconscious after the collision, suffered multiple injuries to his body and had to be pulled out of the water by his friends.

CareFlight’s rapid response helicopter was tasked just after 7pm to Five Dock Bay Boat Ramp, where it landed a few meters from the scene.

Due to windy conditions, CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic quickly assessed the patient on the boat ramp, before transporting him into a road ambulance.

CareFlight’s medical team then intubated the patient, placing him on a ventilator to stabilise his condition.

The patient was taken via road ambulance to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical but stable condition.

CareFlight’s medical team praised Ambulance crews for their assistance.

Police were also at the scene.
