A 51-year-old man remains in a stable condition after being hit by a motorcycle on an off-road racing track in the Illawarra this morning.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was called to Appin at around 11.20am, landing at the track near the injured man.

The man, who was wearing full protective gear and helmet, had crashed his bike while racing. He was then hit by another rider while he was on the ground.

The man was initially unconscious and treated by a medic at the track before NSW Ambulance crews arrived.

He was assessed by CareFlight’s specialist doctor and intensive care paramedic for head injuries before they accompanied him by road to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.
