A 55-year-old man has suffered serious injuries when using an angle grinder and it caught his leg at a residence in Bonnels Bay, Lake Macquarie this afternoon.

CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter was tasked to help the man at 5.18pm, landing in Bonnels Bay Park near the scene.

The helicopter’s critical care team were immediately transferred to the residence by Police to help NSW Ambulance paramedics who were on scene providing initial treatment to the man.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic provided further treatment to the man, including to stem serious bleeding for a serious laceration to the leg.

The CareFlight and NSW Ambulance critical care team provided ongoing treatment to the patient as he was taken by road to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.
