A 37-year-old man has sustained serious head, chest, abdomen and lower limb injuries when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a van in Brooklyn.
The motorcyclist was trapped for 20 minutes and emergency services personnel from Fire and Rescue NSW and the Rural Fire Service were on scene to extricate the man.
CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance at 1:20pm and landed 10 minutes later on an Old Pacific Highway helipad. NSW Police escorted CareFlight’s clinical team to the scene of the incident where NSW Ambulance paramedics were providing initial treatment for the patient.
CareFlight’s specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic assisted with the man’s extrication and performed a clinical assessment on the patient. An ultrasound and blood transfusion were performed at the scene, and the clinical team intubated the patient and placed him in an induced coma to stabilise his condition.
The man was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition under ongoing treatment from CareFlight’s aeromedical team.
