Multi-agency response to truck and car collision

1 November 2021

A truck and car have collided on Bells Line of Road, Mount Tomah, resulting in a multi-agency response to treat a number of casualties.

The truck’s trailer rolled and slid down the embankment. The truck driver, a man aged in his 60s, sustained injuries to his head and chest.

The man and a female passenger were trapped in the truck and extricated by emergency services personnel from NSW Ambulance, Fire and Rescue NSW and the State Emergency Service. NSW Police also assisted in managing traffic.

The Mounties Care CareFlight Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance shortly before 11:00am and landed on the highway near the collision. The medical team made their way to the scene of the incident where they treated the truck driver for his injuries.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic conducted a roadside clinical assessment at the scene, which included an ultrasound, and administered pain relief.

Additional medical teams on two NSW Ambulance Rescue helicopters were also dispatched to provide specialist care, treatment and transport for other patients injured in the incident.

The man was airlifted to Westmead Hospital under ongoing observation from CareFlight’s medical team in a stable condition.
