A two-year-old boy has been taken to hospital in a critical condition after a drowning incident in Western Sydney this afternoon.

It’s understood the child was found by his family face down in a backyard inflatable pool at a home in Ropes Crossing.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked shortly after 7.00pm, landing in a reserve a few hundred metres from the scene.

Police met the landing helicopter and conveyed CareFlight’s critical care team to the residence to assist Ambulance paramedics who had provided initial treatment.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic provided additional treatment at the scene and throughout road ambulance transport to hospital.

The child remained unconscious, the medical team intubating and placing him on a ventilator to stabilise his condition.

The infant was taken to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition.
