Darwin, Saturday, 17 August 2019

A woman in her 70s has been flown to Royal Darwin Hospital after she fell and hit her head whilst walking near Gunbalanya earlier this afternoon.

The woman was visiting the Territory from overseas and was on a walking tour through Arnhem Land when she slipped and sustained a head injury.

The tour guide provided first-aid before Gunbalanya clinic staff arrived and provided initial treatment.

CareFlight, operating the Top End Medical Retrieval Service on behalf of the Northern Territory government, tasked the NT Rescue Helicopter to the scene.

CareFlight’s Flight Nurse was winched down to assess the patient and provide ongoing treatment.

The patient was winched into the helicopter and flown to Royal Darwin Hospital in a stable condition.
