The CareFlight crew were treated to a joyful community reception when they visited Beswick, 118km southeast of Katherine, last week.

The NT Rescue Helicopter was called in when heavy rainfall and flood conditions made transporting a patient to Katherine Hospital by road impossible.

While there’s no landing strip available for a fixed wing air ambulance, the fast and long range AW139 was able to fly the 300km from Darwin directly, landing in the community’s football field in an hour and 40 minutes.

CareFlight’s doctor and nurse provided care for the patient, preparing them to hospital.

Meanwhile, the crew took the opportunity to chat to members of the community and show them around the helicopter.
