A 66-year-old woman has been taken to hospital after she was trapped when her car crashed in North Rocks shortly after 3.30pm this afternoon.

It’s understood the woman was driving on a busy road in North Rocks when she hit a pole.

CareFlight’s rapid response helicopter flew to the area, landing on a soccer field nearby less than ten minutes later.

NSW fire crews cut the vehicle to free the woman, with the assistance of CareFlight and NSW Police.

NSW Ambulance provided initial treatment for the woman, who had sustained severe chest and abdominal injuries.

CareFlight’s critical care paramedic and specialist doctor arrived and continued treatment, providing a blood transfusion on scene.

CareFlight’s medical team continued caring for the woman as she was taken by road to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition.
