Wide-eyed 12-year-old Kalan Berry-Stott from Daly River enjoyed a very special day out when he tagged along for CareFlight’s first open day specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities this week.
VIP guests at our Darwin Airport base also included the NT Health Minister, Natasha Fyles, the Member for Arafura, Lawrence Costa and the Northern Land Council Chair, Samuel Bush Blanasi.
The aim of the day was to help build a better understanding of CareFlight’s role in providing a vital lifeline for remote communities through the Top End Medical Retrieval Service, operated on behalf of the NT Government.
But young Kalan might have been thinking about his own future career when he was taken aside by pilot Dean Blackman for a thorough tour and briefing on the pride of our fleet, the AW139 helicopter.
Kalan followed up with a very nice thank you note showing, as CareFlight NT general manager Craig Gibbons remarked, an eye for detail in an accurate drawing of our aircraft. Just the sort of attribute we like to see in a potential future CareFlighter.
