16/05/2025 – NewsCareFlight and Viva Energy Extend Partnership to Strengthen Health Outcomes in the Northern Territory
CareFlight has welcomed the renewal of its partnership with Viva Energy, with a further $3 million investment over the next three years to support emergency medical services and community health initiatives across the Northern Territory.
Since the partnership began in 2022, Viva Energy’s support has enabled CareFlight to respond to more than 400 helicopter missions, helping hundreds of patients in remote regions of the Northern Territory. The collaboration has also supported the delivery of 74 training courses for over 700 participants and provided 6 scholarships and 6 traineeships to increase First Nations participation in healthcare.
CareFlight NT General Manager Jodie Mills-Mitchell said the partnership continues to improve access to emergency care and build community resilience.
“This partnership helps ensure Territorians can receive urgent medical care when and where it’s needed most,” Ms Mills-Mitchell said. “It’s also investing in the future—through local traineeships and community education programs that strengthen outcomes long after the mission ends.”
The renewed agreement will allow CareFlight to expand its community education initiatives, including a consultation on Melville Island to explore the potential for a dedicated on-country CareFlight role. This initiative is part of a broader commitment to meaningful engagement with First Nations communities.
“We’re proud to work alongside Viva Energy to co-design programs with First Nations communities that reflect local strengths, needs and aspirations,” Ms Mills-Mitchell said.
Viva Energy CEO Scott Wyatt announced the extended partnership during the launch of Tiwi Port Marine—a landmark project returning ownership of key fuel infrastructure to the Tiwi people and supporting regional economic development.
“We are proud to continue supporting CareFlight’s vital work across the Northern Territory,” Mr Wyatt said. “Together, we’re helping to improve health outcomes, strengthen communities and create lasting opportunities.”
CareFlight operates the Helicopter Rescue Service from Darwin on behalf of the Top End Medical Retrieval Service, in partnership with NT Health, to deliver integrated critical care and rapid response across the Territory.
