CareFlight takes trauma training to Tassie
20/12/2016 – EducationCareFlight’s MediSim trauma training program travelled to Tasmania in late 2016, bringing valuable lifesaving skills to emergency responders around the island state.
Health services in rural and regional Australia can be seriously limited in emergencies. Often, the first people at the scene of an incident are local rescue volunteers.
MediSim sends doctors, paramedics and nurses to rural and remote areas, delivering world class trauma training to local emergency services and rescue volunteers.
Since it was launched five years ago, MediSim has trained more than 2,800 emergency personnel.
The program has made several visits to Tasmania, returning to Hobart in an effort to reach as many first responders as possible. For the first time the MediSim team visited Smithton in the north west, training volunteers from Circular Head.
The program also visited Strahan on Tasmania’s west coast, and Campbell Town, a community of about 700 people on the midland Highway known as ‘the place where north meets south’.
MediSim is delivered at no cost to participants with the help of Origin Energy, Johnson & Johnson Medical and Spirit of Tasmania, as well as the generosity of CareFlight supporters.
