Air Ambulance flights from Indonesia

CareFlight offers reliable international air ambulance and medical evacuation services across Indonesia. Our aircraft can land at most major international airports and key provincial hubs throughout the country, including Jakarta, Java, Denpasar, Bali, Lombok, Surabaya, Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi.

CareFlight performs frequent air ambulance patient retrievals from Indonesia, with many lifesaving medevac flights originating from Bali each year. We successfully complete dozens of critical medical evacuation missions annually. While a large number of these transfers are from Indonesia to Australia, we also regularly facilitate patient transfers to other destinations across Southeast Asia.

What’s included in your flight?

CareFlight provides a fully integrated bed‑to‑bed air ambulance service, using our dedicated fleet of CareFlight-operated aircraft and our expert teams of doctors, nurses, pilots and drivers. From the moment we receive a request for help through to the patient’s safe handover at the receiving hospital, we manage every stage of the aeromedical transfer.

Our Air Ambulance jets are specially equipped for critical care transport, staffed by highly trained CareFlight critical care nurses and an aeromedical doctor. Each aircraft is configured to carry one stretchered patient along with one accompanying traveller, approved on a case‑by‑case basis.

Our specialist clinical crews are extensively trained in aeromedical retrieval, working seamlessly together to deliver advanced in‑flight medical care. Every doctor on board is an expert in aeromedical medicine, ensuring patients receive the highest standard of treatment throughout their journey.

What is an air ambulance?

An air ambulance is a specially fitted fixed‑wing medical aircraft designed to move patients across long distances while delivering uninterrupted clinical care. These planes operate as flying intensive care units, equipped with advanced critical‑care technology and staffed by trained aeromedical specialists. This setup ensures that seriously ill or injured patients can be transported safely on international journeys when commercial flights are unsuitable or medically unsafe.

Is an air ambulance free from Bali?

The simple answer is no — air ambulance services are not free. The total cost varies based on the patient’s medical needs, the service provider, and relevant state health policies. In Indonesia, air ambulance arrangements are typically coordinated through insurance companies, international assistance providers, or organised directly by the patient’s family or close contacts.

What is the cost of air ambulance from Bali?

The cost of an air ambulance can vary widely, influenced by factors such as the distance of the flight, the type of aircraft used, the level of medical support required, and the organisation delivering the service.

In some situations, travel insurance may cover part or all of the expense of an air ambulance transfer, depending on the patient’s condition and the inclusions of their policy. If a traveller does not hold insurance—or if their policy excludes medical evacuation—they are responsible for the full cost of transport and onboard medical care.

In many cases, a dedicated medical jet is not necessary. If a patient is stable and able to move with assistance, they may be suitable to fly on a commercial airline with a medical escort. This escort may be a nurse, a doctor, or a combined clinical team, depending on the patient’s specific medical requirements.

Typical Costs

If a traveller does not have travel insurance or medical evacuation cover, typical expenses may include:

  • Medical escort on a commercial airline: usually $10,000–$40,000, depending on the distance travelled and the level of clinical support required.
  • Dedicated air ambulance jet retrieval: generally $60,000 to well over $100,000+, influenced by the patient’s condition and the total flight distance.
