AEROMEDICAL EDUCATION

Our doctors and nurses undergo intensive orientation programs, followed by the highest standards of continuing education accreditation. They typically train in winching, in-flight and inter-hospital scenarios, and cliff top and ocean edge safety, as well as undertaking Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET).

This equips our medical staff with the elite skills they need to reach and treat patients in the most inaccessible places.

CareFlight also runs a medical registrar training program, accredited for specialist training in critical care. CareFlight was the first organisation in Australia to be accredited by the Specialist Medical Colleges for training outside of the hospital context.  Since implementing the program more than 25 years ago, we have provided valuable training and hands-on experience to many of the specialist doctors now working in critical care around Australia.

MEDISIM

Volunteer emergency service personnel can be the first to arrive at the scene of trauma incidents in regional and rural areas. They may need to make critical decisions quickly and sustain life until professional emergency medical help arrives.

The MediSim  program teaches them how to do just that. Our experienced specialist doctors, nurses and paramedics deliver the highest quality trauma care training. The practical component of the workshop uses life-like mannequins and a unique car crash rescue simulator to give participants an opportunity to practise in a realistic but safe and controlled environment.

PRE-HOSPITAL TRAUMA COURSE (PROFESSIONAL COURSES)

The CareFlight Pre-Hospital Trauma Course is a one-of-a-kind in Australia. It brings together all the knowledge accumulated through thousands of missions, over decades in the retrieval industry.

Multidisciplinary experts provide participants with the latest information about pre-hospital care, based on evidence and experience.

Attended by doctors, nurses, paramedics, emergency response officers, firefighters and military personnel, the interdisciplinary course arms participants with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to enter the pre-hospital environment with confidence.

CPR Courses

Over 12,000 people each year die from cardiac arrest. Of these, 95 percent die before ever reaching hospital because nobody around them feels capable of administering CPR. CareFlight is doing its bit to improve survival rates by teaching CPR skills in the community. CareFlight’s cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) courses are nationally accredited.  Learn more about CareFlight’s CPR Courses by clicking here.

INNOVATIVE NEW COURSES

CareFlight’s educators are continuously developing training modules to help the medical community meet current needs.

Two recent courses employ the latest in simulated learning environments:

THREAT – a Tactical and Hostile Response, Emergency Access and Treatment course. CareFlight’s educators bring in-depth experience in tactical and hostile environments such as sieges, riots, war zones, developing disaster areas and other high threat environments.

CART – CareFlight Aeromedical Retrieval Training. Experienced multidisciplinary educators provide a simulated ‘working on aircraft’ experience for doctors, nurses and paramedics who are seeking entry level professional development opportunities.
