"Morning, I'm Henry - and I've been a CareFlight pilot for over 20 years now. They say I'm the life of the party when the Bear family get together. But there's nothing I like better than flying, especially when it's to the rescue."
"Hi there. My name‘s Rick and I‘m honoured to be a CareFlight doctor. Every case we‘re called to is important, but when you can save the life of a little bear like Sally, you know that all the years of training have been worthwhile. It‘s incredibly satisfying."
"Hi, my name‘s Amanda. Flying to patients in remote areas carries great responsibility...but it can bring great joy too. As for holding a newborn baby I‘ve just helped deliver, words can‘t describe it."
"I‘ve been part of the CareFlight crew since 1996 – and I love what I do. My name‘s Ben and I‘m in the helicrew, so I help make sure Henry the pilot and Doctor Rick get to our wounded bears and return to base safe and sound."
"There‘s nothing scarier for the Bear family than bushfire season. But you have to protect your loved ones, don‘t you? I‘m Bill, and I‘m proud to put my fur on the line fighting fires while the CareFlight crew does such a great job overhead."
“Hi! My name is Terrance. Welcome aboard the Bear Express. I’m a big supporter of the great crew at CareFlight since they rescued my daughter, Ballerina Renee. Every year as a thanks I invite the CareFlight crew on board my steam engine to enjoy a fun day out. Thanks again CareFlight!”
“Hi, I’m Dorothy – most people just call me Dot. I’ve dedicated my life to serving my country as a Captain in the Bear Army. I see a lot of similarities between my work and CareFlight’s – we’re always ready to hear the call and do whatever it takes to look after our fellow bears’ interests. When I leave the army, I want to become a CareFlight doctor, just like my cousin Rick.”
“Hi, I’m Harry. I’ve always been pretty good with my hands, so I really enjoy my job working on the tools as a handyman.
When I was asked to do some work around the CareFlight base I couldn’t have been happier. Making sure everything is in tip-top condition for the crews who do CareFlight’s lifesaving work is a real privilege. I know I’ll never be a doctor or a pilot, but I’m so pleased to be playing a part.”
"Hi, my name's Brendon, and I love creating special meals for the CareFlight bears. They need nutritious food to keep them going when they're out on a mission...and something really tasty they'll love to eat. And when Bob the engineer's on duty, I know there will never be anything left over!"
"Hi, I'm Tim the Sailor Bear. It's great being on the high seas. My cousin Ben was once a sailor, but now he is a CareFlight helicrew bear - I'm so proud of him. It's great to know that if we get critically injured at sea, CareFlight will winch us off the ship and fly us to hospital."
"Hello there, my name’s Phil. I’m the postman who delivers letters to all the other bears. I’ve always loved my job - except for the day I was knocked off my bike. That wasn’t so good, such a scary accident. Luckily for me, CareFlight flew to my rescue. It was a huge relief when Henry landed the helicopter nearby with Dr Rick on board. Thanks to CareFlight I’ve made a great recovery. But I’m always that little bit more careful on my bike these days."
"Hi, my name’s Jo and there’s nothing I like better than spending a day in the garden. But one day I had a nasty fall in the vegie patch and bumped my head. Thank goodness CareFlight could fly to my rescue – things could have been a lot worse without them! Now I’m growing pumpkins and carrots so I can make some tasty soup to take in for those kind bears that helped me."
"Hi, I'm Alan — one of many rescue bears around Australia. Our job is to be first on scene at accidents. We could be freeing passengers trapped in cars or attending medical emergencies in remote locations. Learning new skills is so important. When CareFlight announced MediSim, their mobile training service, was due to visit our area, I was first to put up my paw to attend. CareFlight has taught me how to take better care of injured people and help save lives."
"Hi, one of the great joys of my life is helping people - that's why the other bears call me Florence. You know, like Florence Nightingale? All the bears know they can depend on me and the whole crew when we take to the skies in a CareFlight plane."
"When you hear about the CareFlight helicopter flying to the rescue, you never think they'll be coming for you. But when I got hurt one day and my mum said 'CareFlight's on their way', I knew I was in good hands."
"I‘m Sally and one day when I was playing with my friend Mike and the other little bears I took a bit of a tumble. Thanks to Doctor Rick and the crew, I‘m as good as new and ready for the next Bear family party."
"Hi, my name’s Leiahn, and I’m Mummy and Daddy’s little princess. I hope you like the pretty dress I’m wearing today – it’s my favourite. When I play with my best friend Renee, I like to pretend I’m a doctor and put a bandage on her arm. It’s such fun! I think being a CareFlight doctor and helping other bears would be the best job in the whole world – so when I grow up, that’s what I’m going to be."
"Hi, my name‘s Renee. I‘m so blessed to be dancing. I was practising ballet at home when I lost my balance and fell through a window. Dr Rick from CareFlight came to my rescue. He looked after me and flew me to hospital. I‘m all better now and will be dancing in my first concert — Dr Rick‘s coming to watch. I‘m so grateful to CareFlight."
"Hi, I’m Lisa. I’ve just started working in the ER at the hospital. ER stands for Emergency Room, and when CareFlight Doctor Rick flies to the rescue of people in trouble, many of the patients are brought straight here. They teach us that the first few minutes after an accident or sudden illness are really important in saving lives. This means the patients who the CareFlight team bring here have already had the best possible medical treatment."
"Hi, I’m Andrew. I’m a doctor in the ER, which is the Emergency Room at the hospital. From the day I joined, I learnt how important CareFlight’s role is in saving lives. When you hear the helicopter overhead about to land, you know you have to be ready for anything. It might be a baby bear who’s fallen ill, or a big bear who’s had some kind of accident. Our job is to take over and continue the great work the CareFlight team have already started."
"Hi, I‘m Olive. Sally and Scott are my grandchildren, but I really like it that all the CareFlight bears call me Granny. Sally is an engineer and Scott a flight nurse. I am so proud of them and everyone at CareFlight. It‘s very special knowing my little ones are busy saving lives every day. All the bears love my homemade date scones so I bake them fresh every day for morning tea. There‘s nothing like hot scones and coffee to start the day."
"Hi, I‘m Grandpa Tom. My granddaughter Sally is an engineer at CareFlight. She takes after me. I remember when she was a little bear — always hovering around me in my tool shed pulling old machinery apart. She wanted to build flying machines when she grew up and that‘s just what she did. I‘m so proud of her and the role she plays in making sure CareFlight are ready to fly every day — saving lives."
"Hi, my name‘s Scott. I‘m one of the flight nurses at CareFlight. Our work is all about saving lives. I might transfer patients from an accident to hospital one day or bring sick travellers from overseas back to Australia the next. I‘m on holiday with my sister Susie, she‘s a CareFlight engineer. We always take our break together and head straight for the beach. I enjoy surfing while Susie relaxes in the sun, reading a good book."
"Hi, my name‘s Susie. I‘m on a beach holiday with my brother Scott. He‘s a flight nurse at CareFlight and I am so proud of him. I love building sandcastles, soaking up the sun and swimming in the surf. When I‘m not taking time out, I‘m one of the engineers at CareFlight. It‘s a very important job: I make sure the aircraft are always ready to fly the crew to save lives and transport patients safely, especially the little newborn babies."
"My name’s Charlotte. When I grow up, I want to be just like my dad. You see, Dad is CareFlight’s Chief Pilot Bear. One day he showed me the helicopter that he flies to rescue people, helping to save their lives – and I haven’t stopped dreaming about it since. That’s why I want to learn to fly as soon as I can… but growing up takes so long doesn’t it?"
"Hi, my name’s Max. When I’m tucked up in my PJs, warm and safe, I’m so proud of my dad. You see, my dad is Roger, CareFlight’s Chief Pilot Bear. So if he’s not here to read a bedtime story to Charlotte and me, he’s out saving lives. Mummy thinks he’s a real hero, and so do I. When I’m a big bear, I want to join the engineers at CareFlight to help keep the helicopters like dad’s in the air."
"Most of the other little bears don‘t know what they want to be when they grow up...but I do. My name‘s Mike, and I want to be a pilot just like Uncle Henry – he‘s my hero. He says he has the best job in the whole world and I agree."
"I‘m Jessica and I think that Doctor Rick – he‘s my uncle – is the best. I‘m working hard at Bear School so one day I can become a CareFlight doctor – then I can help save people‘s lives too."
"G'day. I’m Ron, Bev's husband. Knowing that CareFlight is in the air gives us a great deal of comfort. As monthly giving CareFlight Support Crew Members, we feel we're part of the team. We know that every day, someone's life is saved because CareFlight is there for them – lives like our little granddaughter Rebekah's. Our family found out how important CareFlight's work is...and you never know who's going to need them next."
"Hi, my name’s Bev. My husband Ron and I became monthly CareFlight supporters when our little granddaughter Rebekah was hurt one afternoon playing with friends. I shudder to think what would’ve happened that day if it hadn’t been for CareFlight! Pretty soon she was right as rain, so we have plenty to be grateful for. When we saw first-hand how important CareFlight’s work can be, we decided to do what we could to help."
"My name's Robbie, and some bears say I'm the happiest little member of the whole Bear family – but to tell you the truth, I can be a bit of a scallywag. I love hiding from my sister and playing tricks on the other bears."
"Hi, I'm Mick – CareFlight's favourite builder. There's nothing I like better than looking after CareFlight's base...so if Buddy the Helicopter says there's some work to do on his hanger, I'm the bear they count on to get the job done."
"Hi, I'm Murray. I love playing golf. In fact I take it so seriously I try to play every day. Yesterday, I hit the ball so hard it went into the sand trap and, to the annoyance of my playing companions, it took an hour sifting through the sand to find it! Eventually I did and finally finished the game. If I keep practising daily, I might be good enough to play professionally. Until then, I‘ll play as an amateur and continue to fundraise for CareFlight."
