CareFlight’s Top End Rescue Helicopter has flown back-to-back missions in West Arnhem Land and Dundee today.
Early this morning, CareFlight was tasked on behalf of the Northern Territory Government to treat a 61-year-old man who began suffering severe abdominal pain whilst working near the community of Kabulwarnamyo, more than 200 kilometres East of Jabiru.
CareFlight flew to the area and the flight nurse and doctor provided treatment for the man before he was airlifted to Royal Darwin Hospital.
While the crew were at the hospital, the helicopter was tasked by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority – a vessel had let off an emergency distress beacon near Dundee.
The medical crew stayed at the hospital to complete their patient handover, while the pilot and aircrew officer quickly flew back to CareFlight’s Darwin base to collect another medical crew and fly to locate the vessel in Dundee.
The crew located the vessel and lowered a radio down to the four men onboard the boat to assess their condition.
All four men were in a stable condition and a nearby vessel assisted them back to shore.
