Three patients have been treated and flown to hospital from three separate incidents across Sydney today.
CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter was tasked following a vehicle rollover at a raceway in south-west Sydney, a motorcycle crash in the Hawkesbury and a life-threatening medical episode at Cherrybrook.
The helicopter medical team was tasked to a motoring raceway in Nepean at 1.41pm to help an 18-year-old male.
The man, passenger in a motorcycle side-cart, was knocked unconscious when it was involved in a crash.
CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic treated the man for injuries to the head and shoulder. The man was flown to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition. NSW Ambulance paramedics were also on scene helping the patient.
Earlier, at around 11.31am, the CareFlight crew was tasked to Wisemans Ferry to help a 68-year-old man who was injured when his motorcycle crashed on the Old Northern Road, landing in a recreation reserve near the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
Police met the helicopter as it landed and transported CareFlight’s critical care team up the road to the scene.
CareFlight’s medical team treated the man for injuries including fractures to his upper and lower limbs.
A road ambulance that had arrived then transported the patient to the helicopter and he was flown to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.
About two hours earlier, at 9.16am, the crew flew to help save a 14-year-old boy who had suffered a serious medical episode and gone into cardiac arrest in Cherrybrook.
Resuscitation treatment was undertaken at the scene, including intubation to stabilise the boy before he was transported in the helicopter. The boy was airlifted to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition.
