A 55-year-old motorcyclist has been transported by CareFlight to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition after he collided with a ute and came off his bike earlier today.
The man suffered serious injuries to both legs but remained conscious as the specialist clinical team tended to his injuries at the scene. The first responder was an off duty Rural Fire Service Officer who provided initial first aid and called for help.
CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked to Mount Murray at the top of the Macquarie Pass on the Illawarra Highway at 2.45pm today. The crew landed on the road about two kilometres from the scene and were conveyed by police to meet the road ambulance and paramedics who were already at the scene.
CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic provided further treatment on the air transfer to Westmead Hospital.
NSW police and NSW Fire and Rescue were also at the scene.
