A 36-year-old man has been taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition after a steel beam fell on him in a factory in Auburn this afternoon.
The man was pinned by the legs under a beam weighing multiple tonnes for 15 minutes until freed by fellow workers. Fire & Rescue crews attended and provided further assistance.
CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked shortly after 2.40pm, landing in an industrial site about 50 metres from the factory after a three minute flight.
The medical crew walked from the helicopter and under a motorway overpass to reach the accident scene.
CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic treated the man for serious injuries to the lower limbs.
The man was taken to hospital by road under the ongoing care of CareFlight’s medical team.
