A 40-year-old male has been airlifted to hospital in a serious but stable condition after a car crash in Somersby this afternoon.
The man was the only occupant of the car which slid off the road on a bend, hitting and subsequently snapping a power pole with the driver’s side of the vehicle.
CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked to the scene on Wisemans Ferry Road just before 1pm, landing in a paddock just 200 metres from the scene.
Police transported the medical team from the helicopter to the accident scene where they joined local Rural Fire Service crews, Fire & Rescue and Ambulance paramedics.
CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic worked with the crews on scene to stabilise the man whilst he was trapped in the vehicle. Upon release from the wreckage the man was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
