Doctors

CareFlight recruits and trains critical care specialists and critical care registrars for our aeromedical operations in both NSW and the NT.

CareFlight holds teaching accreditation with the Critical Care Colleges of Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia and Intensive Care. The registrars who join our registrar training program spend their term learning to care for the critically ill and injured in a pre-hospital, inter-hospital and aeromedical retrieval environment.

Some of the key criteria needed in order to be considered for a registrar position with CareFlight:

  • Advanced trainee (preferably in your second last or final year of training) in emergency medicine, anaesthetics, intensive care or related specialities
  • Extensive experience in the management of critically ill patients, including trauma
  • Completed EMST or equivalent
  • Completed APLS and/or MIMMS (desirable)
  • Above average fitness and ability to work in challenging environments
  • Eligible for medical registration in Australia.

Flight nurses

CareFlight employs nurses and midwives to work as part of an integrated aeromedical crew across a variety of transport platforms.

The following applicant traits are highly regarded:

  • Midwifery qualifications and registration
  • Clinical experience working in paediatrics
  • Previous experience working in the area of Indigenous health

Some of the key criteria needed to be considered for a nurse position with CareFlight are:

  • Registered nurse, currently registered with AHPRA
  • Five years full Emergency/Critical Care experience
  • Possess relevant post-graduate qualifications in Critical Care or Emergency Nursing
  • Current certification in ALS and TNCC or trauma course equivalent
  • Demonstrate the ability to function effectively as a team member in a critical environment
  • Be physically capable of meeting the challenges of aeromedical practice, including helicopter rescue and retrieval work
  • Possess highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate effective consultation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Have the ability to demonstrate ability/skills to operate in out-of-hospital environments
  • Possess a current driver’s licence

CareFlight employs specialist paramedics for medical service operations with major oil, gas and mining projects. Experienced intensive care paramedics are integral to these operations, providing a primary medical response capability for ill or injured workers in remote and isolated facilities. Key objectives and responsibilities may include: Delivering the highest quality paramedical care in a pre-hospital environment Managing logistical issues that may arise within a case, ensuring a smooth transition between both transport modes and Institutions Consulting and communicating both within the team and externally with our stakeholders, to ensure an optimal patient journey Successful candidates will be trained, credentialed and mentored in providing remote primary health and critical care.
