A 35-year-old man riding a bicycle down a slope on Burns Road, St Ives, has fallen and sustained a serious head injury and injuries to his arm.

CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance at 2:55pm and after a seven-minute flight, landed on the St Ives Village Green. NSW Police escorted the team to the scene of the incident where NSW Ambulance paramedics were providing initial treatment for the patient.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic performed a clinical assessment on the patient, including an ultrasound, while taking spinal precautions. The clinical team intubated the patient and placed him in an induced coma to stabilise his condition.

The man was taken by road in a stable condition with NSW Ambulance under ongoing treatment from CareFlight’s clinical team to Royal North Shore Hospital.
