A 63-year-old man has been flown to hospital in a stable condition after he was injured in surf on the Central Coast this morning.

The man was pulled from the surf by bystanders  after being dumped by a wave and suffering suspected spinal injuries.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked shortly before 10am, landing in a reserve by Kilcare Beach.

The man was initially helped by an off duty doctor and surf life savers on the beach.

CareFlight’s critical care medical team provided additional treatment at the scene before flying the man to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.

Ambulance crews also attended and assisted as the man was transferred from the beach to the helicopter.

The CareFlight crew praised all the emergency crews, the local life saving club members and off duty doctor for their combined efforts to help the man.
